Our Heritage
Almansa, Spain has been dedicated to shoemaking since the early 1700s. The hands that craft your LAOR shoes carry centuries of accumulated mastery — passed from Maestro to apprentice, generation to generation, never broken, never lost.
Every leather used in a LAOR shoe is 100% genuine, sourced exclusively from the world's most prestigious tanneries. Each hide is selected for its quality, texture, and ability to age beautifully with time.
Sourced from premier tanneries across Northwest Spain, Germany, and Italy. Full grain calf is the benchmark of fine footwear — supple, durable, and develops a rich patina over years of wear.
Our crust calf leather comes from the same prestigious Italian tannery trusted by Santoni, Berluti, and Andrés Sendra. Crust leather is left unfinished, allowing our artisans to hand-paint each piece individually using special creams and brushes. Each piece tells its own story through color, texture, and the steady hand of the artisan.
Patina Workshop
Patina is a centuries-old art of hand-dyeing leather to create a completely unique, aged effect on each pair. No two pairs are ever identical. Every application is a one-of-a-kind work of art — forged by the steady hand of Spain's finest patina artist.

Our Heritage
Almansa is a small, quiet town in southeastern Spain — halfway between Albacete and Valencia. For over four centuries, this town has lived and breathed one thing: the making of shoes.
18th Century
What began in the early 1700s as small artisan workshops — each led by a Maestro craftsman, assisted by a pair of officials and one apprentice — would lay the foundation for an entire industry. These workshops produced shoes for local communities, slowly building the knowledge and capital that would transform a quiet town into the shoemaking capital of Spain. By the end of the 18th century, more than 200 workshops had been registered in Almansa alone.
19th Century
In 1815, Antonio Coloma opened a small leather workshop in Almansa. Through hard work, innovation, and an unrelenting pursuit of quality, it grew into Calzados Coloma — the largest shoe factory in all of Spain, employing over 1,200 workers. By 1904 Almansa was producing 87,000 pairs per year. By 1912, that number had grown to 4.3 million pairs annually. The Coloma family is widely regarded as the true architect of Almansa's shoemaking legacy.
20th Century
Two World Wars. The Spanish Civil War. The crisis of 1973. Almansa's shoemakers have faced every storm history could throw at them — and survived every one. Each generation of craftsmen emerged more skilled, more resilient, and more dedicated than the last. The knowledge passed from master to apprentice, from father to son, from century to century — never broken, never lost.
Today
When we founded LAOR, we chose Almansa deliberately. Not for convenience — but for legacy. The craftsmen who build your shoes carry four centuries of accumulated skill, passed down through generations of masters. Every stitch, every welt, every hand-finished detail is the result of a tradition that has survived everything history has thrown at it.
We believe the most luxurious thing a shoe can carry is the story of the hands that made it.
Experience the heritage for yourself.

Our Materials
Every leather used in a LAOR shoe is 100% genuine, sourced exclusively from the world's most prestigious tanneries. Each hide is individually selected for its quality, texture, and ability to age beautifully with time.
Also called "Suede" or "Lux Suede". Created from the underside of the animal hide — softer, more supple, with the appearance of a light furry nap. A timeless choice for elegant casual footwear.
The softest and most velvety of all suede leathers, sourced from small goat skins. The smaller skin size increases cost per pair, but the result is a more refined finish with a smaller, more delicate grain on the surface.
Also referred to as rectified grain calf. Any surface imperfections are eliminated through a post-production process at the tannery, resulting in a flawlessly smooth, highly luxurious finish. Though less natural-looking than full grain, the appearance is immaculate. Our Polished Calf leathers are hand-painted by our artisans in Almansa.
A leather finish in which the surface is treated to create a highly glossy, mirror-like appearance. Bold, formal, and unmistakably elegant — patent leather is the choice of the most discerning dresser.
Lightweight and supple, made from the outermost layer of the hide. The surface is buffed to give the grain a light, velvety finish. Similar to suede in feel but more durable — Nubuck is a refined choice for the modern gentleman.
We offer a full array of sartorial fabrics — flannels, velvets, and iconic patterns including Tweed, Plaid, Tartan, Herringbone, and Leopard. The result of combining these materials with hand-painted leather in a bespoke shoe can be truly astonishing.
Exotic Skins
We offer genuine exotic skins in our Made-to-Order program. Each skin is ethically sourced and hand-selected for its markings and texture — matched to our painted calf base colors.
Strong, supple, durable — and unmistakably luxurious. American alligator skin (Alligator mississippiensis) is harvested from farm-bred and wild animals in the Southeast USA. Less bony than crocodile, making it easier to cut, stitch, and fold — and softer to the touch. A bony layer within the skin adds protection, while the dimple on each scale creates the iconic exotic look.
One of the finest and most durable leathers in existence. Renowned for its softness, flexibility, and tactile strength — ostrich leather is paradoxically both the softest and one of the strongest leathers available. Naturally occurring oils prevent cracking even under extreme temperatures. The signature quill socket markings are the most sought-after part of the hide — a testament to nature's own artistry.
Prized for its unique grain, scale patterns, and natural color variations. We use front-cut python — cut down the belly, leaving the smaller scales at the center. The scales, which once protected the snake from the elements, carry a natural lip that opens toward the tail — your assurance of genuine python skin.

Patina Workshop
Patina is a centuries-old art of hand-dyeing leather to create a completely unique, aged effect on each pair of shoes. No two pairs are ever identical. Every application is a one-of-a-kind work of art.
The process begins with unfinished crust leather — tanned and prepared, but not yet dyed. Our patina artist applies dyes manually to the uncut hide and the fully assembled shoe, using white cloths, fine brushes, and sponges to build up color layer by layer.
Colors are deliberately faded and aged to create an old-world charm — attractive to the eye, unique to the wearer. With attentive care and superior savoir-faire, each pair is given its own personality, its own soul.
Patina is still considered a young art form — and very few artists have truly mastered it. We are proud to work with the finest patina artist in Spain.
Using secret recipes, rare materials, and an intimate knowledge of how each leather reacts to different dyes, our artist can reproduce any color precisely on demand. A true patina artist does not simply paint — they coax a story out of the leather itself.
Each finish is entirely handmade and available to order through our 3D configurator:
Through our 3D configurator you can choose the intensity of your patina — controlling the depth of shadow and aging effect applied to your pair. From a subtle whisper of age to a dramatically worn vintage finish, the choice is entirely yours.
